Okay, back on track in the Alphabet Regime - this is the second of the Michelle Giuttari books I've read now - reviewing a A Florentine Death in 2008.  It'll be interesting to see if the author has got the blatant self-promotional portrayal balanced out this time.

From the Blurb:

In the picturesque Tuscan hill town of Scandicci, the body of a girl is discovered.  Scantily dressed with no purse or other possessions, she is lying by the edge of the woods.  The local police investigate the case - but after a week they still haven't even identified her, let alone got to the bottom of how she died.

Opening Lines:

Florence 2001.  The girl, little more than a child, was found on the edge of a wood on the road above Scandicci, scantily dressed, without papers, and dying of an overdose, at dawn on Sunday 29 July, and was taken to the Ospedale Nuovo.  But it wasn't until almost a week later that Chief Superintendent Michele Ferrara, head of the Florence Squadra Mobile, really become involved with the case.
