Can anyone help identify this book?
"Hi, would you or someone elese you know be able to help me locate an Australian crime novel even though I remember neither the name of the (male) author nor the title of the book. It would have been published some years after World War Two but no later than 1970. I read it in a paperback edition in the USA ca. 1966-1969. This is what I remember: The setting is the outback somewhere in Western Australia. The protagonist (first-person narrator?) is not a professional detective, but a mining engineer or geologist sent by his company to look for an employee, a German national, who has disappeared in the outback. The narrator's car breaks down; he runs out of water; horrendous heat--etc. but he will eventually find what looks like the mummified body of that man. I think the dead man had had some connections with Nazi Germany; I also think that the company was mining dangerous (possibly toxic) materials (uranium?). "
