Book Title:

It was one of those weekends. Firstly it was cold. Seriously cold for these parts (one online weather reporting whatsit said it got to -6). That might not be cold in some places in the world but here it froze the duck baths, bird baths, chook waterers and hoses. Killed numerous plants instantly, blew up parts of our watering system which meant we had water fountains squirting everywhere when everything started to defrost, and made your eyes water badly when trying to go anywhere that wasn't plastered to the front of the fire. Two nights in a row. (Which made last nights 8 degrees as we were toddling off to bed uncomfortably hot!). Then the pigs escaped and we had to go spotlighting for them for hours through the bush in the middle of the night. Couldn't find them anywhere. Came home very distressed, only to have them come running up the driveway towards us 10 minutes later. They got scolding and cuddles all at the same time and are currently in a lock down in their house and small yard whilst we work out how industrial their paddock fencing is going to have to go. Needless to say - comfort reads were required. Hence a Dr Siri.

From the Blurb:

Dr. Siri was 72 years old in 1974 when he was forced out of retirement and grudgingly became Laos's national coroner. Now he might finally be allowed to retire (again). Although he loves his two morgue assistants, he's never loved the job, and he wants to spend some time with his wife before his untimely death (which has been predicted by the local transvestite fortune teller).

But retirement is not in the cards for Dr. Siri. He's dragged into one last job for the Lao government: supervising an excavation to find the remains of a US fighter pilot who went down in the remote northern Lao jungle ten years earlier. One member of the party is found dead, setting off a chain of accidents Dr. Siri suspects aren't completely accidental. Everyone is trapped in a cabin in the jungle, and the bodies start to pile up. Can Dr. Siri get to the bottom of the MIA pilot's mysterious story before the fortune teller's prediction comes true?
